چکیده

Combining (1) the universal correlations between Tc and ns/m ∗ (superconducting carrier density / effective mass) and (2) the pseudo-gap behavior in the underdoped region, we obtain a picture to describe superconductivity in cuprate systems in evolution from Bose-Einstein to BCS condensation. Overdoped and Zn-substituted cuprate systems show signatures of reduced superfluid density in a microscopic phase separation. Scaling of Tc to the superfluid volume density ns in all these cases indicate importance of Bose condensation.

Short Coherence Length Superconductivity: A Generalization of BCS Theory for the Underdoped Cuprates

On the basis of the observed short coherence lengths in the cuprates we argue that a BCS–Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) crossover approach is an appropriate starting point for correcting the mean field approach of BCS and, thereby, for addressing pseudogap phenomena in these materials. Our version of the BCS-BEC approach is based on a particular Greens’ function decoupling scheme which should...

Evidence for crossover from a Bose-Einstein condensate to a BCS-like superconductor with doping in YBa2Cu3O7−δ from quasiparticle relaxation

Time resolved measurements of quasiparticle (QP) relaxation dynamics on the femtosecond timescale are reported as a function of temperature and doping in YBa2Cu3O7−δ for (0.48 < δ < 0.1). In the underdoped state (δ > 0.15), there is no evidence for any changes in the low-energy gap structure at Tc from either photoinduced QP absorption or QP relaxation time data. In combination with the sum rul...

2 M ay 1 99 4 Comment on “ Evolution from BCS Superconductivity to Bose - Einstein Condensation : Role of the Parameter k F ξ in Interpreting the Experimental Plot

The problem of crossover from BCS to Bose-Einstein condensation has recently attracted considerable interest owing to the discovery of high-Tc cuprates. Their short coherence length, ξ, places these materials in the interesting region between BCS and Bose-Einstein condensation. In the paper of F. Pistolesi and G.C. Strinati (Phys. Rev. B 49, 6356 (1994)), the Nozières and Schmitt-Rink approach ...

BCS-BEC Crossover: From High Temperature Superconductors to Ultracold Superfluids

We review the BCS to Bose Einstein condensation (BEC) crossover scenario which is based on the well known crossover generalization of the BCS ground state wavefunction Ψ0. While this ground state has been summarized extensively in the literature, this Review is devoted to less widely discussed issues: understanding the effects of finite temperature, primarily below Tc, in a manner consistent wi...

Relationship between the pseudo- and superconducting gaps: Effects of residual pairing correlations below Tc

The existence of a normal-state spectral gap in underdoped cuprates raises important questions about the associated superconducting phase. For example, how does this pseudogap evolve into its below Tc counterpart? In this paper we characterize this unusual superconductor by investigating the nature of the ‘‘residual’’ pseudogap below Tc , and find that it leads to an important distinction betwe...
